Advanced Publishing Corporation adopts Microsoft Silverlight in its next generation rich interactive digital edition (RIDE™) solution

New solution for creating rich interactive digital magazines and newspapers for the print publishing industry unveiled

Saint John, NB Canada – September 5, 2007. Advanced Publishing Corporation announces today the launch of its next generation digital edition solution -- RIDE (Rich Interactive Digital Editions) built on the Microsoft Silverlight cross-browser platform. Silverlight delivers rich, cross-platform interactive experiences that include animation, graphics, audio and video capabilities for the Web. Integrating Silverlight within the RIDE application enables Advanced Publishing to seamlessly create and deliver rich interactive versions of magazines and newspapers for its publishing customers. A digital edition created with RIDE delivers full size, full color pages with access anywhere.

In addition to full issue and archive search, email and social network sharing, and interactive deep hyperlinking capabilities, with RIDE and Silverlight online video takes on new life. Advanced Publishing’s customers can embed or add HD quality video content to an issue providing readers with a high definition experience available nowhere else! Silverlight creates interactive video experiences that scale from full-screen high-definition (HD) to mobile devices.

“Advanced Publishing has proven to be a leader in the digital edition industry, and by supporting Silverlight they will have the capabilities to expand this leadership as the movement from traditional print to digital delivery accelerates in the publishing world,” said Steve Sklepowich, group product manager in the UX Platform and Tools team at Microsoft Corp.

“This marks a significant milestone in our company’s history as we roll out an industry first application using Silverlight as our chosen cross browser viewing platform” said Trish Connolly, Advanced Publishing’s CEO. “We were blown away by the video advances that Silverlight offers our publishing customers. As online video takes on more of a prominence in media, this platform offers the best experience possible. In addition, its XML based presentation layer allows us to provide superior search across both video and publication text content.”

Advanced Publishing Corporation will be demonstrating its new solution at the magazine industry’s premier event - Folio:Show in New York, NY on September 24-26, 2007. Magazine publication samples are also available on the company’s website at www.advancedpublishing.com
